We have customers that create tabular Ad Hoc reports. One of the items in the records retrieved is a column in the table that contains a "thumbnail" version of an image. The image can be stored in either a column data type of "Image" or "Varbinary". This is for the Microsoft SQL Server database. SQL Server recommends the Varbinary data type.
The customers would like the ability to add the "Image" column to their tabular report. Then when the report runs, the "thumbnail" would be displayed in the Image column. We can do this now via a custom report built with the Jaspersoft Studio. However, the customers want this ability via the Ad Hoc designer. We have already scaled the "thumbnail" images to 300 x 300 pixels, so they display nicely in a tabular column.
